Tuesday Tutorial – DIY Salt Dough Ornaments

For today’s DIY I am pulling inspiration from all the baking going on inside my head.  I have gathered favorite recipes and a few new ones to try.  Bought all the necessary ingredients.  Next step, get to the making and baking.  Coming soon!

In the meantime, here is a very fast and fun activity to add a personal touch to your tree.  They would make perfect grandparent gifts too.  Don’t you think?  I made salt dough ornaments when I was younger and MPMK has just the right idea when it comes to this craft.  It’s still as simple and rewarding as I remember.  If you have flour, water and salt in your kitchen then you have ornaments!  I told you they were easy.

The hand print with an initial is my favorite.  Especially with a little touch of color added for interest, it makes them just a bit more festive.  I wonder if you could color the dough?  Have you tried these lately?  Did you add some color?  I’d love to see how yours turned out.

Have a fun day today and…

Live Well

I love salt dough! It’s funny though, I don’t remember if we ever used it to make ornaments. I do remember adding food coloring to the dough. I like the hand prints…too cute. Did you do these yet? I remember letting these air dry…baking is probably easier. Does it shrink much though…I’m thinking about the size of the handprint. Love ya buddy

I think I made them in kindergarten and we colored the dough also. I remember making a snail in about 2nd or 3rd grade and it was shellacked onto a piece of wood. I loved that crazy thing! They don’t shrink much at all. That I do remember.
