Oh my, what a year can change! Claire Rowan Vaughn celebrated her two year birthday over the past couple of days. She has grown from a sweet little crawler into a sharp little girl who doesn’t miss a trick. Keeping up with her brothers and speaking almost as clearly as they do. Definitely not a shrinking violet as the saying goes.
Her love of books, creating with her hands, exploring nature and the outdoors continues to flourish and she shows no signs of slowing down. Almost daily, like every little busy one does, she adds to her list of likes and interests. This time in a child’s life is always so amazing to me. Absorbing everything they are exposed to (good and bad), processing it and then applying it to their own surroundings.
She started school a few months ago and couldn’t be happier in the Montessori environment. It’s only a few hours each week, but it allows her to develop and learn outside of her own home. It also allows me a few hours of time to recharge. I didn’t start the boys this early with outside schooling, but Claire is different and with each kid, you have to treat them like an individual and parent to their strengths. It seems to have worked pretty well for her so far.
Thursday night, on her actual birthday, we had pizza, per her request and a delicious ice cream cake from our favorite local farm, Bellvale Farms Creamery. There were balloons floating around the house that she would walk around with as if they were her pets and lots of renditions of the Happy Birthday song!
Sunday we celebrated once again with more family and ate more cake, this time in the form of over sized cupcakes. They were a hit and so was the day. After we wrapped it up that night, Mark put her to bed and I can only imagine all the sweet nothings he must have wispered in her ear while holding on to her childhood a little tighter than usual.
