It was raining this weekend but we needed it and our crunchy grass was thirsty! So, despite the fact that it kept us indoors a bit, we were happy to have the water. Another bonus? It gave us an opportunity to try out some Rain Art. Have you ever made Rain Art? To do so, you simply draw on watercolor paper with washable markers then let the rain sprinkle on your paper. The rain makes the ink run a little creating really fun designs.
The result?
Mad Men-esque artwork for your home! Want to give it a whirl?
You will need:
Tip: Don’t have rain? Sprinkle water on your paper using the “Mist” setting with a spray bottle.
Have your child draw on watercolor paper with washable markers. I suggested the children draw designs and patterns rather than landscape-type artwork or cute figures. Designs and patterns tend to work best in this project since the rain will make the design run.
Once finished, set the papers briefly out in the rain. It’s best to do this when it’s lightly sprinkling outside like with a lighter rain. A downpour will wash off the design entirely. Watch until the marker starts to run on the paper, then retrieve your paper holding it flat.
Lay your paper flat to dry. If you try to hang the paper to dry, the ink will run everywhere.
Once dry, frame if you please and enjoy!
Thanks Caroline!
