Hi friends! Do you use cloth napkins for mealtime in your home? We started using cloth about 5 years ago and it changed our experience at the dinner table in such a positive way. Today, inspired by our love of cloth (and the new geo triangle trend!) I’m showing you how to create your very own dinner napkin designs. This project is so easy that your kids can help you or make the napkin designs on their own!
Materials Needed:
Plain White Cloth Napkin
Magic Eraser Sponge (use the original kind without ridges)
Fabric Paint (we used a gold-tinted one)
Shallow container for fabric paint
Step 1
Using some sharp scissors cut a triangle shape out of the magic eraser sponge. Trim it down until it’s only about 2 inches tall.
Step 2
Lay your napkin out flat on a durable surface that you don’t mind getting a little paint on. Consider laying down newspaper or freezer paper underneath to absorb any paint that seeps through. Squeeze some paint into a shallow container then dab the triangle sponge you created into the paint. Dab it all around until the paint thins out a little.
Step 3
You can practice a few stamps on some paper until you master the technique then begin stamping in a straight line. Next, form another line underneath and so on until the napkin is covered in triangles.
Step 4
Remove the newly painted napkin from the work surface and if you used paper, the paper underneath. Allow about 30 minutes to one hour to dry. Follow the instructions on the fabric paint bottle (sometimes they ask you to “set” the paint with an iron) then launder the napkin, fold and enjoy!
The End!
Thanks Caroline!
We also only use cloth napkins in our home. In fact, I have a stack of white ones that have been hanging around for a while waiting to be decorated. Now I know just what to do with them!
Live Well

Very cool!! Love these, great job. I’ll have to give this a try. We have been using cloth napkins for quite some time now! I can’t even imagine using paper anymore. Here’s another easy way to decorate white napkins too…. http://buzzmills.typepad.com/blog/2012/07/a-cotton-anniversary-gift.html
Oh, I like your idea too. There are so many amazing things you can do with scrap materials!
What a great and simple idea…perfect, too, to do with my daughters. Thank you!
Thanks! I think this one is definitely a kid friendly craft!
I love how modern these look.
Me too! I tend to like a more classic pattern, but this is as classic as it is modern.
