Did you flush a toilet today? When you were finished, did you wash your hands? I hope you washed your hands! This is something I tell my kids to do constantly after using the toilet. Why? So they don’t spread germ causing bacteria to their mouths and other areas of their living space. Basic hygiene 101.
“Approximately 1.2 billion people on our planet have no facilities to ensure hygienic separation of humans from their own excreta.” Water.org
If you were to help just one person FOR LIFE – they could have clean, safe water to wash those hands after every visit to the bathroom. And you know what? I bet they would be so grateful to have that opportunity, they wouldn’t have to be remind like most of us do with our own children.
The facts:
- Improved sanitation facilities are estimated to result in an average reduction in cases of diarrhea of more than 33%
- Sanitation and proper hygiene are crucial to diarrhea prevention. It is estimated that improved sanitation facilities can result in an average reduction in cases of diarrhea of more than one-third. Washing hands with soap has been found to reduce diarrhea by more than 40%
- Of the 60 million people added to the world’s towns and cities every year, most move to informal settlements (i.e. slums) with no sanitation facilities
Something most of us take for granted, but is so crucial for a healthy life.

Jill, thank you so much for all of your amazing work with this campaign!
Love, Caroline
If I could save every single person myself I would! Since I can’t, this is the next best thing.
