New Blog Design!

If you have been hanging around here on TerraSavvy for a while now, you’ve probably noticed the recent change in my blog layout and design. Over the summer I worked with the amazing wife and husband team of Liz and Jeff at Super Runaway to create a space that expresses a more genuine reflection of my aesthetic, taste and personality. Also to get back to my original intentions when I started this blog.

I began TerraSavvy to have a natural, easy, comfortable place where I would look forward to creating and sharing what I am passionate about. I think Liz and Jeff helped me to finally get there!

My goal in the redesign was not only to make the blog easier for you to navigate and use as a resource and discovery tool, but to enjoy your time while visiting. I knew I wanted to approach the changes the same way I do my home design choices. The overall look and tone was to evoke a sense of worn in comfort like your favorite jeans, while still having an updated modern style. For you to come in the front door and immediately feel relaxed and at home. I hope I’ve accomplished this! Hey, I am a Taurus so I am a natural born earth-girl.

Most of the site is complete, but I am still working on a few behind the scene tweaks and additions. Changing my cover photo, categorizing posts and completing new pages are still in the works. Please hang on for just a little while longer while I get the rest of my blog housekeeping finished.

In the meantime, let me show you around a bit and explain why I made certain changes and decided on specific design elements.

Below you’ll see I created some general blog organization. I couldn’t help myself! This list gives you an overall area of interest to explore depending on what you are looking for.

Create – DIY tutorials, art, home projects, etc. Anything where you are making and doing. Creating!

Eat – Recipes, any food related article or information.

Live – Landing page for subcategories that break down further.

  • Inhabit – relating to the home and home life
  • Sustain – environmental and social mindfulness
  • Nurture -good things for the mind, body and soul
  • Explore – relating to travel and discovery of the world around us

Read – Replaces The Library from my original layout. All books I’ve written about will be found here (including cookbooks!)

Write – My more reflective and thoughtful articles.

With all of the categories (except Write), for this example I chose Create, it will take you to a page like this:

One important factor in the redesign was to have a more visual experience. The blogs I enjoy spending time at and revisit often are ones with quality pictures in an uncluttered space. Choosing to use a grid layout makes it more visually appealing and gives you an effortless way to browse through my content.

Another feature I’m excited about are the cool looking social media buttons. This is where you can find me through an RSS feed, Tweeting in 140 characters or less, chatting on Facebook, posting fun pictures on Instagram, and Pinning my latest obsessions.

One last thing I want to point out is the First Visit list of posts. This is a great way for new readers to get an overall idea of what they will find here on a regular basis. So, if you are new here today, go on over and take a look. I hope you like what you see!

As I continue to fill in and update some more, I’ll make sure to let you know. For now, pull up a comfy seat, grab a cup of tea (or coffee) and take a look around.

OH and any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

Enjoy!

Live Well
