Creative Tuesday ~ Make a Paint Chip Gift Tag

 {Post courtesy of Caroline, a TerraSavvy contributor who also creates on her blog, Salsa Pie.}

Today I would like to share with you an easy project for making your own holiday gift tags. I am loving the look of this holiday season already emerging online : grays and browns mixed with bursts of neon pinks and greens are popular combinations.

To create a similar look when gift wrapping (which is just as important as the gift!) you can use Kraft paper (or even recycled paper packaging as a smart option) and finish off the look with simple string ties and neon colored paint chips for your gift tags!

In my opinion, the best wrapped gifts are never fussy, but always convey the same sense of cool, thoughtfulness that is hidden inside. With this simple project, you can rock your holiday gift wrapping sessions and all you need are paint chips and a sewing machine!

I made about 10 tags in less than 10 minutes. Here’s how you can too:

You Will Need:

Paint Chip Samples

Scissors

Sewing Machine and Thread

Step 1

Get organized, lay out your paint chips and decide which ones you’d like to use. For the single paint chips, you’ll need to sew them together. For those with multiple colors in a row, you’ll simply cut out the shape, cutting through all the colors. Go ahead and thread your sewing machine at this point too and have it ready for action.

Step 2

Cut triangle shapes out of your paint chips. There are no hard rules here just make sure you work around the writing on the paint chips, avoiding including any lettering in your cut-outs.

Step 3

Sew multiple triangles together starting from the base and sewing a line towards the tip (Pro Tip: tape the triangles together on the backside with a think sliver of clear tape before sewing) Continue sewing all the way through the tip of the triangle then continue sewing pulling the thread so that a long twisted string remains at the tip of the triangle. You can use this string to tie on the tag! If you are sewing just one triangle repeat these same steps, sewing from the base all the way to the tip.

You’re finished! See how easy that was? And your gifts are now ready to be tagged! You can also tie the tags on your Holiday tree if you wish!

Happy tree-trimming and gift-giving, friends!

Thanks Caroline!  Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but these tags are so delightful…

Sorry, I just got into the holiday spirit!

Live Well

Cute and easy? Sign me up. Luckily I’ve bought so much paint I don’t feel one bit guilty helping myself to the samples!

Carla–Haha! I feel the same way! :) I also have SO many paint chip samples in my craft drawer (and they are so pretty) that I hate to toss them in the recycling bin before finding a project to use them. This is the perfect up-cycle project for that!

I agree on not feeling guilty for the paint chips! I too have bought enough paint for a village! xo
