I’m a bit nostalgic about birthday parties. In fact, I love the idea of having people over to my house for a good, old school “at home” birthday party! So this year when my daughter turned seven we decided to host a “Cake and a Craft” themed party complete with crafty little party favors for the kids.
For the favors I came up with this idea: a simple cloth sack filled with crafty supplies and tied closed with grosgrain ribbon and a couple of crayons. If you should ever want to use this idea and assemble these “Crafty Kids Party Favors” sacks here’s the scoop on how you can create them–
You Will Need:
Sewn Fabric Sacks made from approximately 4 inches by 6 inches
Mini Crafty Party Favors (We used mini-playdough and for necklace making, some beading string with fun beads)
Crayons
Grosgrain Ribbon
Tiny Rubber Bands (optional)
I sewed mini sacks using some fabric I had in my stash (purchased from Ikea). I did this by cutting out approximately 4″ x 6″ rectangles (two rectangles for each sack) then hemming the top (short side) opening edge of each rectangle. Once hemmed, I flipped the front-facing piece of one rectangle to face the front of second piece (with hemmed edges at top) then sewed around the sides and bottom, then flipped them right-side out.
Pro Tip: I learned to work faster I could hem a long length of fabric edge and then cut out the rectangles rather than cutting out the rectangles first them hemming each tiny edge.
Once your sacks are sewn you simply stuff your supplies inside, twist a rubber band around the opening of the sack then tie on two crayons (held together by a tiny rubber band) and you are ready!
Now, it’s party time! Go ahead and get crafty! And, if you’ll excuse me, I am off to eat some birthday cake!
Thanks Caroline! Nice way to kick off the New Year – with a party themed craft just in time for Cole’s upcoming birthday next month.
