The Sandman by William Joyce

A little over a year ago I wrote about the first book in the Guardians of Childhood series, The Man in the Moon by William Joyce.  Since then, there have been a few more guardians introduced to us.  And wouldn’t you know it, that movie I was hoping for was released this past November.  Jake and Cole were lucky enough to see it with their aunt and uncle and thought it was pretty cool.

The Sandman tells the story of Sanderson Mansnoozie and his path to becoming the night watchman, guarding children’s dreams and keeping nightmares at bay.  Mim, a.k.a.the Man in the Moon, was in need of a helper for those nights when the moon isn’t quite full and saw the potential in Sanderson.  After a few hurdles and twists of fate and sand, he proudly accepts his new found title, The Sandman.

So far they have released two picture books and three novels that build the characters’ stories from 200 years prior to the movie Rise of the Guardians.  Since I am someone with OCD, I have this strange desire to wait until the other books are available before I see the movie.  You know, to do things in order.  On the other hand, there are way too many more books to be released and I just can’t wait that long.

Did you see the movie?  Have you read any of the books?  What were your thoughts on the characters in the movie vs. the magical nature of the books?  I’m hoping they did the Guardians justice after such beautifully illustrated stories.

Pretty cool. I have never heard of these books before, neither I have watched the movie but regardless, I think that story books tend to be far better than their movies! I look forward to read the books and watch the movies though (:
